DAY 01 Alice Springs

With so much to see and do in Alice Springs, you can be sure there is never a dull moment! Don't miss popular highlights like Anzac Hill, the Old Telegraph Station, the Royal Flying Doctor Service and the School of the Air. Also, take the time to admire the flora and fauna of the Red Centre in Alice Springs Desert Park.

Begin the day with a hot air balloon ride at sunrise. Enjoy the breathtaking view as you watch the sun rise above the horizon. Spend the rest of the morning relaxing in town and watch life go by. Take a leisurely stroll along the galleries in Todd Mall where fine indigenous art from all over Central Australia can be found.

In the early afternoon, explore the natural attractions of the West MacDonnell Ranges, stopping for scenic breaks at Simpsons Gap and Standley Chasm. Alternatively, join a quad bike tour of a cattle station based just outside town. Keep your eyes peeled for surprise sightings of red kangaroos and other native wildlife as you are guided through vast spinifex plains and sand dunes on a dust-churning quad.

In the evening, visit the Sounds of Starlight Theatre, where a spellbinding musical and visual journey awaits you. Complete your authentic Australian adventure as you indulge in the enigmatic sounds of the ancient didgeridoo.

DISTANCE: 445KM, APPROX. TRAVEL TIME: 5HR

The destination for today's adventure is Uluru - Kata Tjuta National Park. Along the way, don't forget to stop at strategic spots to view Mt. Ebenezer and Mt Conner. Explore Kata Tjuta / Olgas, wander through the Walpa Gorge or the Valley of the Winds (7.4 km) and walk through the domes to appreciate the beauty of the landscape in its truest form. However, the path is rocky and requires one to have a good level of fitness when walking at the Valley.

Tonight, enjoy the Sounds of Silence Dinner under the star-spangled sky of the Outback. Be mesmerised by an astronomer who will unlock the ancient secrets that fill the Universe. You can choose to stay at Kata Tjuta for sunset and enjoy the magnificent view before heading back to the resort for dinner. Day 04 Ayers Rock

Rise and shine early to watch the magnificent desert sunrise as it casts its first rays over Uluru / Ayers Rock, then spend time strolling leisurely along Mala Walk and Kantju Gorge. Or you can opt for a three to four hour complete loop walk around the 9.8 kilometre monolith. Thereafter, explore Kata Tjuta / Olgas, 48 km away, wander through the Walpa Gorge or the Valley of the Winds, walk through the domes to appreciate the beauty of the landscape in its truest form. However, the walking path is rocky and requires one to have a good level of fitness at the Valley.

DISTANCE: 471KM, APPROX. TRAVEL TIME: 5HR

Depart from Alice Springs and travel to Kings Canyon, along the way, pause to view the magnificent view of Mt. Ebenezer. In the afternoon, explore Kings Canyon - a mammoth ravine rich in fauna and flora, rock pools, sand plains and gullies. The best way to experience Kings Canyon is on the three-hour rim walk over the top of the Canyon. The panoramic views of the towering orange walls are nothing less than spectacular from above. The walk also takes in the domed rock formation of the 'Lost City', and then descends into a lushly vegetated valley into the 'Garden of Eden'. An alternative is the easier walk along the Canyon floor. Tonight, enjoy the enchanting and haunting Sounds of Firelight dinner under the stars.

If you are feeling adventurous, stop at Kings Creek Station for a helicopter flight, camel ride or tour the station on a quad bike before heading to Ayers Rock. This afternoon, set aside some time at the Uluru - Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre to learn about the Aboriginal custodians of the land. Then travel to Uluru Ayers Rock sunset viewing area which offers a dazzling view of the sun set and the kaleidoscopic colours of Uluru - skies bathed in glorious hues of red, ochre and purple.

Day 03 Alice Springs to Glen Helen
DISTANCE: 130KM, APPROX. TRAVEL TIME: 2HR (4WD recommended)

Continue your Red CeNTre journey into the West MacDonnell where you will find many natural attractions. Don't miss Simpsons Gap as it will offer you a chance to spot the Black Footed Rock Wallabies. Standley Chasm is best to be viewed at noon when the sun hits the floor of this narrow cleft, setting the walls aglow. Continue to Ellery Creek Big Hole, Serpentine Gorge, Ochre Pits and Ormiston Gorge before arriving at Glen Helen.

DISTANCE: 260KM, APPROX. TRAVEL TIME: 4HR

Today is your initiation to the Mereenie Loop, a rugged drive through the desert landscape to Kings Canyon in the Watarrka National Park. Stop along the way at Redbank Gorge and Tnorala (Gosse Bluff) Conservation Reserve, a massive crater a whooping five kilometres in diameter from a comet impact 130 million years ago. The site is best appreciated from the air, but you'll get a bird's eye view from the Tyler's Pass lookout.

If you have made an early start, take the 43 km detour from Tnorala to the Hermannsburg Historical Precinct, the home of the famous Aboriginal artist, Albert Namatjira. In the afternoon, head to Kings Canyon, best known for the mighty chasm that cleaves the earth to a depth of 270 metres.

Tonight, enjoy the haunting and enchanting Under a Desert Moon dinner under the stars at Kings Canyon Resort.

(Permit - the Red CeNTre Way (Mereenia Loop Road) cross through Aboriginal land. A tour pass is required and is available for purchase at A$2.20 at Glen Helen Resort, Hermannsburg, Kings Canyon Resort and Kings Creek Station).

Day 05 Kings Canyon to Ayers Rock
DISTANCE: 300KM, APPROX. TRAVEL TIME: 3HR

Rise early today to explore Kings Canyon - a mammoth ravine rich in fauna and flora, rock pools, sand plains and gullies. The best way to experience Kings Canyon is on the three-hour rim walk (highly strenuous) over the top of the Canyon. The walk also takes in the domed rock formation of the 'Lost city', and then descends into a lushly vegetated valley leading to the 'Garden of Eden'.
